Mary
Bonetati
Mary
Bonetati has been an educator
since 1972, and was selected as
Klein ISD’s Secondary Teacher of
the Year in 2002. Today, she
shares her considerable
expertise and experience in
teaching science by helping to
develop the water
education curriculum and student
outreach programs. She serves as
liaison with educators to
maximize their use of the
classroom materials and is a
“frontier” classroom resource
for the TEXAS WATER program.
After graduating
from McNeese State University in
Lake Charles, LA, she spent a
year with Aldine ISD before
coming to Klein ISD in 1973 for
the remainder of her career. She
earned her Masters degree in
Education at Stephen F. Austin
State University in 1981. Mary
spent time in the classroom at
Klein High School, Strack
Intermediate, and Klein Oak High
School before tackling the
demanding assignment as
Instructional Officer for
Science K-12 for all of Klein
ISD in 2002. She remained in
this position until her
retirement in late 2009.
Mary has played
an active role in Texas Teachers
of Tomorrow (2004-07), serving
as a summer teacher for the ACP
Program, and as a Harris County
Department of Education ACP
Program Instructor for science
in 2008-09. She has attended key
summer education workshops on
such diverse topics as Human
Genetics and Bioethical Decision
Making at Ball State University,
to Molecular Biology at the
University of Houston, to
Digital Microscopy at Baylor
College of Medicine. She has
taught numerous Inservice
sessions for KISD, including
workshops on Integration of TEKS
into various grade level
curriculum and how to involve
students in Lab activities. Mary
served as Teacher Reviewer and
Consultant in the development of
the Biology textbook, Web of
Life, by Scott Foresman.
Mary is a member
of the National Association of
Biology Teachers, the
Association for Gifted and
Talented Students, and the State
Science Teachers of Texas
(STAT). In 1996, Mary was
recognized by the Willowbrook
Rotary Club as Outstanding
Teacher. She was a Summer
Teacher Intern at the Museum of
Health and Medical Science in
1999. Mary loves to travel and
enjoys outdoor activities like
hiking and snow skiing. She
spends as much time as possible
with her grandchildren.
